Peel Ports Division is the second largest ports group in the U.K. handling over 40 million tonnes per annum. Peel Ports operate the ports of Mersey Docks & Harbour Company, Clydeport, the Manchester Ship Canal and Medway Ports, providing a broad range of port facilities and services to shippers and cargo owners.
Mersey Docks & Harbour Company in addition to the Port of Liverpool also includes Heysham Port in Lancashire and Medway Ports in the South East of England. The Port of Liverpool handles in excess of 32 million tonnes of cargo p.a. and handles more container trade with the U.S.A. and Canada than any other port in the land.
Clydeport is Scotland’s only major west coast intercontinental and Atlantic facing port and handles approximately 7.5 million tonnes pa from operations at Hunterston, Glasgow, Greenock and Ardrossan. Clydeport encompass a 450 sq. mile area on the River Clyde, It’s estuary and sea lochs.
The Manchester Ship Canal handles over 6 million tonnes of freight pa and traffic travels the whole 36 miles of canal from Eastham, on the Wirral to Salford Quays at Manchester.
The Ports division also owns extensive property investment and land assets including the Glasgow Harbour development, one of the largest in the UK with an end value of over £500 million. The Scheme covers 120 acres of former docks and shipyard land on the north bank of the Clyde. |
