Peel Land and Property Retains the Carbon Trust Standard

Tuesday, 13 March 2012

Peel Land and Property has been recertified with the Carbon Trust Standard for successfully measuring, managing and reducing carbon emissions as part of a Group-wide application demonstrating a 1.9% absolute reduction in emissions.

Peel was first awarded the Carbon Trust Standard in February 2009. In the last two years the company has honed its energy efficiency strategies even further to cut carbon emissions by over 4,000 tonnes CO2e a year, through a wide range of initiatives.

Speaking for the Land and Property division, David Glover said: “Driving energy consumption down is good for our tenants, it is good for the environment, it is good for our communities and it is good for Peel businesses. Not only do we reduce the cost for tenants but it allows us to continue to demonstrate leadership amongst property companies and provides us with a competitive advantage.”

A recent series of workshops with tenants set out how we are responding to the issue of sustainability and the programmes we have put in place for our property portfolio. The response was outstanding, helping us deliver future improvements by working even more closely with our tenants.

It is especially pleasing that these efforts have been independently verified by the Carbon Trust who benchmarked us as the best “property developer and manager” amongst all 29 property companies which have been certified under the scheme to date, giving us a top score of 85% across a wide range of topics such as our policy, governance, investment, measurement systems, reporting and training.

Together with a top 18% score on the Carbon Reduction Commitment League table, these results can give our Tenants confidence that Peel is working hard to continue to deliver first-class accommodation for environmentally-aware and cost-conscious tenants looking for space in which their organisations can grow and thrive.
