New Stadium Puts Salford in a League of its own

Monday, 30 January 2012

The new £26 million Salford City Stadium, home of the Salford City Reds, is now complete and will be welcoming the Sky Sports Cameras for the first competitive rugby league match on Saturday 4 February.

For Salford the state of the art stadium is a coming together of business and the community benefiting both sectors, whilst ensuring that a lasting legacy of professional sport is delivered too.

The Stadium, owned by the City of Salford Community Stadium Company – a joint venture between Salford City Council and The Peel Group - provides a 12,000 capacity sports stadium that will be used by Salford City Reds. It also has professional standard community facilities for amateur teams to use.

The business side of the Salford City Stadium has its sights well and truly set on the conference and meeting industry. First-class catering and event management is provided by Azure whilst stadium operations are directed by Stadium Manager Pam Martin.

Pam Martin, Stadium Manager, said: “Delivering business solutions to national, regional and local customers in the heart of Salford does not just bring financial benefits to the stadium. It also ensures that we are best positioned to give the community of Salford a stadium they can be proud of and an additional local facility that they can make use of through the Salford Reds in the community and other local initiatives”

The stadium boasts a state of the art conference and event facility with stunning views over the pitch and the iconic Manchester skyline. The 1,200 square metres of open space has the flexibility to be divided into three suites catering for up to 1,000 people.

There is also 280 square metres of external space with scope for marquee events and outdoor activities.

The Stadium can also offer external space for touring shows and provides an impressive setting for large concerts.

Councillor John Merry, Leader of Salford City Council, said: “The stadium is opening at a very exciting time for Salford. There’s so much happening in the city at the moment that we need to make sure we have a wide range of facilities available for businesses and visitors. But this is also a great facility for the local community, with community sports pitches and event spaces available for them to use.

Pam added; “We are uniquely positioned to appeal to a broad range of businesses that require all the modern meeting facilities and catering options together with accessibility and convenience. Situated just off the M60 at junction 11 we could not be more accessible from all points.”
