August Bank Holiday weekend is once again expected to be the busiest period of the year for Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) with around 74,000 passengers expected to be travelling through the airport.
With recent lengthy spells of rain dampening more than just spirits, the attraction of some much needed Summer sunshine is likely to see a late surge of holiday makers taking the opportunity for some end of season hotter weather, following yet another disappointing British Summer.
With more opportunities than ever before to set off in search of sun and sea in and around the Mediterranean with carriers such as easyJet and Ryanair, along with flights to hundreds of destinations across the world via Amsterdam with KLM’s regular connecting service from Liverpool, passenger levels this weekend are set to reach levels not seen since before the economic downturn.
Recent news of Liverpool’s continued growth in passenger numbers despite the challenges faced by the difficult economic climate is evident again, with passenger throughput expected to increase by 7% this weekend when compared to the same period last year.
Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Peel Airports, commented: “Once again the poor British Summer is tempting the region’s passengers to spend time away from the UK. The great choice of value for money flights and somewhat warmer places to visit direct from here looks like proving irresistible for many.
However not all our passengers will be looking to get away from the region. Once again the growing international reputation of Liverpool’s Mathew Street Festival to be held over the Bank Holiday weekend, will no doubt bring over many visitors from overseas into Liverpool too.”
