John Peter Whittaker, Corporate Development Manager at The Peel Group has successfully completed the Marathon Des Sables.
He and his university friend Henry Williams battled through numerous sandstorms and temperatures reaching 51◦c to complete the 152 mile multi-day endurance race in a total time of 36hr 46mins. The news of John completing the Marathon des Sables comes as it is announced that his brother James Whittaker will be taking part in the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay in Knutsford on 31st May.
John has been raising money for Sparks and Myeloma UK and to date has raised over £35,000, Peel has kindly offered to match any donations made which will take the total funds up to £80,000.
John commented, “I feel incredibly proud to have completed the Marathon Des Sables and raising substantial funds for 2 fantastic charities. We were overwhelmed with the amount of support and the generous donations we received; it certainly spurred us on during the tough times and helped motivate us to reach the finish line.”
