Gloucester Quays retailers have announced a 38% jump in like-for-like sales over the first week of the Easter holidays, and a staggering 88% increase in footfall over the same period last year.
The first ever Gloucester Quays Garden Party helped attract thousands of shoppers with more than 22,000 descending on the centre on Easter Saturday and an extra 10,000 on Easter Sunday – the most visitors ever on that day as according to the organisers, Easter Sunday is normally a quieter trading period with the largest stores closed.
Gloucester Quays attracted over 60,000 people over the Easter weekend alone – and the second week of Easter holidays was also busy compared to the same period last year.
Richard Rawlings, Gloucester Quays Centre Manager confirmed: “We knew that our Garden Party had driven people into the Centre over the Easter weekend, but translating this into sales is fantastic news. We’re also really pleased that the second week of Easter was still popular and over the entire period like-for-like sales were up a third.
“With three bank holiday weekends coming up in May and June, and our own planned events including our Orchard Street Food and Craft Market on the 1st weekend of each month; Guided Dock Tours starting at the Centre; and planned Jubilee promotions, we’re looking forward to maintaining momentum until our next key signature event – the Gloucester Quays Food Festival (20-22 July).”
