Peel Retail Parks today announced ambitious plans to develop a new 80,000sqft anchor store at Peel Retail Park Straiton, Edinburgh, which has been pre-let to Next.
Building work has commenced on site with the new store set to open in June 2016. Once completed, it will become the largest Next store in Scotland and one of the retailer’s biggest out of town units in the UK.
The new store signifies the third expansion for Next at Straiton, with Peel and Next working collaboratively in delivering each phase of development and growth.
In total, Next will have increased its gross floor space from 15,000sqft to 80,000sqft over a three-year period. This is testament to the rapid progression at Straiton and the attraction of the Next product offering, which has widened the appeal of the park which already attracts in excess of 6million visitors per annum.
The new store will create 110 jobs for the local area and offer customers an extensive product range of women’s wear, men’s wear, home and children’s clothing, plus a click and collect service.
Next will occupy a fully refurbished and redeveloped store, strategically anchoring one end of the recently remodelled and upgraded upper terrace, dramatically improving connectivity with Sainsbury’s, Costco and Ikea. This is complemented by a complete overhaul of the Straiton Road frontage enhancing the visibility and prominence of the scheme. The new Next store will be clad in Jura limestone to the main façade together with a substantial curtain walling glazing system.
Mark Whittaker, Group Property Director at Peel Land and Property, said: “Recently ranked a Top 20 UK Retail Park by Property Week, the continued investment, development and focus on design progression at Straiton, has enabled Peel and Next to exchange contracts to deliver what will become the largest Next store in Scotland. Peel has for the last five years been working hard on repositioning Straiton and we are delighted that we are now in a position to announce this truly transformational deal.”
“Benefiting from its strategic central position on the City of Edinburgh bypass, with retailers reporting exceptional like-for-like sales growth, we feel Straiton is perfectly placed to position itself firmly in the upper tier of the UK retail hierarchy, bringing significant economic benefits to the wider Edinburgh area. We will now continue the exceptional momentum we have generated and focus on bringing more exciting retail and leisure providers to the park, developing our unbuilt planning consent and delivering against our business plan.”
This agreement with Next follows the additions of Outfit, Nike, Matalan, Sofaworks and Nandos to the ever strengthening retailer line up at Straiton.
