Peel Land and Property are bringing forward the first residential development with regeneration specialist X1 Developments, having secured permission for a 14 storey block at the 10.5-ha Chatham Waters site, and expects to start construction this spring.
Positioned on the site of a former naval dockyard, the waterfront development overlooking the Medway estuary will provide 199 one, two and three-bedroom luxury apartments within a single block.
The residential project follows a number of commercial projects at Chatham Waters including an Asda superstore, Medway University Technical College and completion of The Mast and Rigging, a Marston's family restaurant and pub.
Peel have also invested approximately £5 million of infrastructure works last year for the project including remediation, flood defence, services and road improvements to The Strand on the A289.
Plans for a second housing development at Chatham Waters are also underway, which will deliver up to 200 one, two and three-bedroom apartments for the private rented sector market.
Financial backing was provided by private equity firm Long Harbour, and will include retail units at the ground floor level, with a waterfront boulevard.
