at the forefront of delivering low carbon energy

A balanced portfolio

Wind power

Peel Energy is committed to the development of onshore wind projects. Our onshore wind portfolio is in excess of 450MW and includes a range of schemes in operation, under construction or in various stages of development.

Energy's projects include England's largest onshore scheme, Scout Moor in Lancashire. Other schemes include: Port of Liverpool wind Farm; Royal Seaforth Dock wind farm; and Port of Sheerness wind farm.

Tidal power

Harnessing energy from tidal power could make a significant step towards meeting the Government's aspiration to source 20 per cent of UK electricity from renewable sources by 2020.

Peel, in partnership with the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Mersey Basin Campaign, recently completed a pre-feasibility study, "Power from the Mersey", to consider viability, technology and options. The project is now progressing with the aim of identifying a preferred scheme and taking it to a planning application by 2012.

Biomass

Biomass is renewable because it is sourced from plants and trees. It is also considered to be carbon neutral as the carbon dioxide released during combustion is equivalent to the amount absorbed by the plant during its growth cycle.

Peel Energy has identified sites for the development of a series of biomass power stations at Peel Group facilities across the UK and on third-party land. These sites represent viable opportunities for biomass energy facilities with a potential output of 20–30MW or up to 300MW each.

Multifuel generation with carbon capture and storage

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) allows carbon dioxide to be collected from fossil fuel power stations, transported and then stored safely underground so that it does not enter the atmosphere.

We have teamed up with DONG Energy, one of Europe's most respected thermal and wind power generators and suppliers, to develop solutions that will make fossil-fuelled power generation a genuine low-carbon route for the UK. then transported and stored safely to prevent it from entering the atmosphere

We are at the forefront of delivering low carbon energy for the UK and believe that a mix of low-carbon technologies is the only way to meet the UK’s growing energy needs

We have a balanced portfolio of more than 3GW in generation or development including wind, tidal power, biomass and multi-fuel power plants with carbon capture and storage.

That's enough to power the average electricity needs of the 3 million homes in North West England.

Or put another way, that's enough for every home in the city regions of Glasgow, Liverpool and Manchester combined.
